In the beginning...a brief history of YR1

Then....School shoes

"If you want a bike you'd  better know how to fix it as I ain't got any brass for repairs lad"

Looking up from the ground after crashing my first bike into a chip shop, cut and bruised I figured out I wasn't gonna get any sympathy for crashing on my maiden voyage.

Being let go at the top of a very, very big hill and being expected to get to the bottom unscathed and in one piece for man and machinery was normal then

Wobbling down at high speed with hob nail boots on trying to brake with those boots on was pretty dramatic as well

No woke or health and safety in those days

Not many vehicles on the road either!!

At 5 yrs of age and starting to walk to primary school on my own I can still remember being told these very words By my mam

and if I wanted to leave home later and get home quicker it seemed obvious

i have to get a bike

my journey had started

The bike

getting the bike was my first problem

having no money  wasnt exactly ideal when I asked my local bike shop for help

eventually thanks to a friend who was a dustbin man I obtained a rather large vintage beast with saddle brakes and wood brake blocks

it didn't matter to me if I couldn't reach the pedals while sat in the saddle all that mattered was I didn't have to walk to school

Tools

the next problem I had after learning to ride this big black cast iron beast was how do I fix it

no money equals no tools

i very soon found out if I wanted to keep mobile then tools were going to be vital

Genius engineers

not knowing how things worked or how to repair things at an early age proved to be a bigger problem than I thought but over time and knowing some incredibly gifted folk we got the skills and started to repair and even design our own parts for bikes to keep those wheels spinning

Manufacturers

Today, tomorrow & beyond

when we first stumbled onto some Campagnolo brakes on an old bike which was chucked away we were transfixed by the quality and design of the components

although we build or have built bikes with other manufacturers parts on them

to this day we still stay loyal to the products that Campagnolo manufacture

Today, tomorrow & beyond

Today, tomorrow & beyond

And so to now

being involved in bikes is without doubt the best thing we ever did

from old school shoes to the type of bikes we build here has been quite a journey

and that journey continues with all.

today, tommorow & for the future...
